What Does People First Look Like?

We’re a nationwide, grassroots movement, organized locally, whose main operations focus on recruiting and vetting outstanding candidates, funding the effort, and harnessing the “power of the people” in support of legislation that serves the people and solves the problems that threaten our nation and the world.

We’re led by a National Steering Committee, which has the following responsibilities:

  • Establishing and enforcing the principles, policies, and rules that govern our nationwide organization;
  • Serving as watchdog to ensure our nationwide organization doesn’t fall prey to the same temptations that corrupt political parties and their candidates;
  • Overseeing the processes for identifying and vetting candidates for elective office, to be sure that any candidate endorsed by People First
    • Will be widely respected;
    • Will be a person of character, achievement, and integrity;
    • Will have no obligations or vulnerabilities to political parties or special interest organizations, and will not accept funding or favors from such interests; and
    • Will demonstrate by word and deed that their sole criterion for decision-making is the well-being of the American people.
  • Developing voter education principles and practices—principles and practices that do not “sell” any point of view or candidate, but inform the public about the issues, lay out the alternatives for dealing with them, and provide the full story (including pros and cons) needed for voters to understand and make judgments about the issues, according to their own values and preferences.

In addition to the national steering committee, People First has a nationwide network of State Steering Committees, which follow the guidelines of the national steering committee and deal with any and all state and local issues. State Steering committees may have a few paid operatives but are staffed mainly by volunteers.

There is also a People First Foundation, with responsibilities for…

  • Funding People First operations;
  • Contributing to candidate campaigns;
  • Contributing grants and other funding to organizations and individuals whose goals support People First principles; and
  • Funding voter information and education programs and campaigns.

There is a People First Registry, accessible through our website, link here. People who wish to join the People First Movement can register on our database, with no obligation, no fees, or required donations (we want donations, but we don’t require them), a minimum of personal information, and no advertisements or subscription newsletters unless they opt-in. Millions of registrants (members of the movement) will be powerful evidence of enormous grassroots strength, and, of course, millions of potential voters for People First candidates.
